America is listed as one of the most expensive places to settle down, with the worlds largest economy. Though within the past few years our economy has taken a downturn(the worst since the depression era) and countries like China and Japan slowly but surely catching up to our countries record of being the world’s largest economy and biggest producer of goods. American society today is based upon several different principals, but the most common is greed.

Every year, not to mention every year there is a new must-have item, with technological advances bounding light-years ahead of what people of the past thought it would be. Advertisement today is based off of how exactly the producer can entice the buyer into buying their product, or investing in more of their company. When the Iphone first came out, hundreds of thousands of people camped out in front of electronics stores for days before it’s release just to buy one, with the day after thanksgiving being the busiest shopping day of the year for consumers and producers alike, people shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars on products they or their children “just have to have.”

Evidence suggests that there is  a type of personality  pre-dispositioned to be more materialistic. Results show  people more affected by  their emotions are more likely to become materialistic, due to their desires to fit in with the crowd, or to posses products and items no one else has yet, or few have seen before. Men are just as likely to become materialistic in today’s society as women are, though men oftentimes tend to buy more gadgets and “toys” such as boats, or cars, while women stick with Clothes, perfumes and shoes. It’s all about who’s who, and who has what today, leading to more cases of bullying, and unpopularity within today’s children.
