Materialisim within America

February 23, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

America is listed as one of the most expensive places to settle down, with the worlds largest economy. Though within the past few years our economy has taken a downturn(the worst since the depression era) and countries like China and Japan slowly but surely catching up to our countries record of being the world’s largest economy and biggest producer of goods. American society today is based upon several different principals, but the most common is greed.

Every year, not to mention every year there is a new must-have item, with technological advances bounding light-years ahead of what people of the past thought it would be. Advertisement today is based off of how exactly the producer can entice the buyer into buying their product, or investing in more of their company. When the Iphone first came out, hundreds of thousands of people camped out in front of electronics stores for days before it’s release just to buy one, with the day after thanksgiving being the busiest shopping day of the year for consumers and producers alike, people shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars on products they or their children “just have to have.”

Evidence suggests that there is  a type of personality  pre-dispositioned to be more materialistic. Results show  people more affected by  their emotions are more likely to become materialistic, due to their desires to fit in with the crowd, or to posses products and items no one else has yet, or few have seen before. Men are just as likely to become materialistic in today’s society as women are, though men oftentimes tend to buy more gadgets and “toys” such as boats, or cars, while women stick with Clothes, perfumes and shoes. It’s all about who’s who, and who has what today, leading to more cases of bullying, and unpopularity within today’s children.

The Benefits of the Big Apple

February 17, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

They don’t call it the “Big Apple” for nothing. New York City’s got everything you need, just like an apple. After all, why do you give one to your teacher? Because your teacher has a tough job, so getting an apple is like getting a jumpstart on your day. Now imagine a “big apple,” and that’s New York City for you. Why do you think some people actually live in the city’s 5-star hotels? There’s so much there to do that you’ll never get bored! You’ll always be nourished.

If you happen to be visiting and setting up your temporary residence at a luxury hotel New York City style, bear in mind that you might be shocked and overwhelmed at the sheer frontier before you that you can explore. It almost makes Australia’s Outback look like a backyard. Whether you’re staying at the Jumeirah Essex House, the St. Regis, or the Greenwich Hotel, take notes on things to look for in the Big Apple. The following are just a few ideas of the many things to see and do in NYC.

A veritable heart of the world–that’s Times Square. It’s the central location of all trade, entertainment, and just about everything else. Then there’s Central Park with the historic Tavern on the Green, a restaurant filled with so much aesthetic appeal that not only will you feel your stomach with nourishment, you’ll do the same with your eyes. You want to purchase a $1,000 sundae just for kicks? If so, go to Serendipity 3 and marvel at the Guinness World Record holder, the “Opulence Sundae.” Pretty crazy, isn’t it?

That just barely grazes the ground of the Adirondack Mountains and graces the surface of Lake Placid, because New York City is huge–so take your time. Don’t worry; the Big Apple won’t go bad if you take too long.

This fact however doesn’t stop people from visiting or moving to the big apple, whether they be regular people or celebrities looking for a suburban city to settle in. Many forms of shopping such as Macy’s, Juicy Couture, Fendi, Coach, Sephora and every major fashionista and designer has a flagship store, somewhere within New York City. Broadway attracts many young hopefuls, and with 1 bedroom condos within New York’s SoHo suburbs listing for rent upwards of 8,000 dollars a month, many people consider the big apple the place to “make it or break it.”

Many people can walk just outside their apartments and walk right into stores like Gucci and Prada, dropping more than 5,000 dollars on purses, shoes and clothing. Fitting in is everything to young people these days, and if they have access to the money, they’re going to spend it on whatever they want, whether it’s stopping at a haute couture place to shop, or a hip new nightclub to dance at, to cars costing upwards of 100,000 dollars.

Are you considering a move to New York? Whether it be for school or just a change of pace, New York has some of the Highest per ca-pita of new residents, and some of the most luxurious places to call home, if you’re willing to put money into where you’re living. Renting is a great option if you’re just looking for something non-commit-able, New York has some of the nicest apartments and condos on the market today.  If you are looking to buy, New York is the place to be for jobs, shopping and entertainment. The city’s “urban” vibe is a plus for many locals and tourists alike. Let’s start with a few apartment listings.

First of all, you have to consider how many rooms you are looking for. Oftentimes, the more rooms you want/need, the more expensive their going to be to rent or even buy. Second of all, is how many square feet the apartment is, and just where in the city it’s located at. Starting with renting, you have to decide which suburb or”part”of the city you want to live in. If you take prime real-estate, such as central park south, Upper East side or Soho, you’ll see renting prices on condo’s at around 15,000 dollars to 25,000 dollars. . This price range is normal for a high end 4 bedroom condo.

Secondly, Let’s take a look at buying an apartment/condo. The perk of buying instead of renting is of course, you owning the property outright. It’s yours, not a landlord’s, and you don’t have to commit to a lease every few months or every year. A typical price for a high end Condo in the Soho/Nari-ta, Chelsea with around 4,000 sq ft. is upwards of 4 million dollars. When it comes to buying solid housing, or an actual house property, this will be rare, and hard to find, making it more expensive. Houses within the shopping district are rare, and you will get farther faster with a condo/apartment. There is housing listed for coops and townhouses just above 9 million dollars.

Negotiating The Price of Your House

December 28, 2010 by admin Leave a Comment

Getting a house isn’t just about finding a place you like, it’s about finding it for the right price. It’s easy to get fixated on what the listing price for property is. You want to adhere to that number and work off of that number. But that’s not how this works. The truth of the matter is that the best thing you can do is work with the seller on the price and know the right price before you think about paying the list price.

Find out how long the property has been on the market. These properties are often sitting on the market for a long time, especially in this rough economy. If the house has been listed for some time this should give you a bit of leverage over the seller. They are obviously not having luck finding anyone to buy it.

Another thing to look into is the previous asking prices. If the seller has had the house on the market for a long time and the price has not changed, this would show an inflexibility by the other people. This might hurt your ability to bargain. On the other hand, if you see that the list price is dropping all the time, they might be willing to work on a price with you. They also might drop it again, so if they reject your offer you can wait it out and see what happens.

The key to negotiating with anyone is making sure that you are comfortable walking away from any property. Once you fall in love with a place is the moment you lose all the bargaining power you need to get the kind of price you want. Don’t ever come off too eager to get into the house. It doesn’t matter if you are eager or not. Just play it relaxed and be ready to walk and that’s when the good prices will come your way.

Going to New York City is a memorable and wonderful experience if you plan your trip right. Everyone wants to go to the big apple, but there are few out there who know how to do it right. If you are planning a trip to New York then you might need a little direction and advice to make your trip a really great one. So here are some tips and tricks that should make the Big Apple your next great vacation.

To open things up you should avoid heading to New York on the weekends. New York, while one of the greatest cities in the world, is also one of the most congested cities as well. You don’t want a situation where you are too overwhelmed by people. Going during the week is nice because not only are there a little less tourists to contend with, but it’s easier to get tickets to shows and events, and also the city is fully functional. Everything is open and available for visit. The other added benefit is that it is nice to see New York when it’s in the middle of a business day.

The next thing you’ll want to do is see if you can stay out of Manhattan. It’s the place you are most likely to visit but it’s not the place that you should stay. New York City is rather expensive anyway so you won’t avoid paying some money, but staying out of the most expensive part of the city will be good for you. It will also give you a chance to spend your money on other things. Don’t make the mistake of spending your money on a hotel room you will be having far too much fun to enjoy. Follow these tips and enjoy your visit.

Finding A Fashionable Place

Living the fashionable lifestyle isn’t the same as living in the fashionable lifestyle. These days it’s not enough to dress the part. These days you have to live the part. Finding the home for you in the big city has to do with knowing where to look and what to look for. The best places to live are often in the busiest parts of the city. Where you live says a lot about you so you’ll want to take your time and do things right.

The first is looking for location. Just because some place looks to be the hot spot right now, doesn’t mean that it’s going to remain that way. You need to do your research. So here are a couple of things you can look into. The first is the income level. There should be resources available through your local real estate agent. They should be able to tell you what the income level is and this will lead you to understanding two things. One, it will let you understand if the neighborhood is trending up or down and two, if you feel it’s worth it to live there. If the neighborhood is trending up then you might want to see what the price is on places and get in while the price is still low. However, if it’s trending down then you’ll want to be weary of people selling to the property’s current value, rather than there estimated value. Don’t be fooled by the price. Know the income level.

The other thing you’ll want to do is look at the neighborhood. If you see newer construction this means that people are investing in it. If you see shops closing then you can tell that there are some issues in the area. You should plan accordingly based on these sighting. These are little tips that you can use to make sure you are living in the most fashionable spot you can.
