One of the well-known human endurance sport is Marathon, which originated in Greece, during the Olympics of 1896. The distance of 24.6 miles, between the Marathon Bridge and the Olympic stadium in Athens had to be covered in the race. In 1908, 2.2 miles were added to the distance which made it 26.2 miles.

The largest marathon in the world at present is the New York City Marathon, in which around 38000 people take part every year. The New York City Marathon is conducted by the New York Road Runners (NYRR), which is a group of more than 300 thousand runners and it is sponsored by ING from the past few years. New York City Marathon is not just for elite professional runners; even people with disabilities take part in it. Some people participate in wheelchairs, hand cycles and some walk .

Every year more than 90000 enthusiasts apply for the race which has just around 38000 spots. The participants are selected by drawing the random lottery applications which the applicants will fill. The participant should have at least attained the age of 18 by race day in order to be eligible for participation.

Each participant has to pay a processing fee of 11 USD and an entry fee of 185 USD for US citizen, 149 USD for members of New York Road Runners and 265 USD for Non US residents. The route of NYC marathon is a unique and tough challenging route passing through hills and bridges. It starts from Staten Island passing through Brooklyn, entering Queens then into Manhattan and then into Bronx after running through a tough section and then return to Manhattan, passing through the streets of Manhattan it will finally end in Central Park at Columbus Circle. The route encompasses 5 bridges. Not everyone will manage to finish the race and the winner gets to take home 130000 USD along with the Samuel Rudin Trophy from the Rudin family.

At the beginning of this fashion show in America there was very few fashion designers in America who worked on original designs. Most of them worked on making dresses from copied designs from designers in Paris. These few dressmakers were asked to put out original designs of their own at the fashion show and before a final run on the ramp, the dresses would be screened by the best dressed people of New York.
