America is listed as one of the most expensive places to settle down, with the worlds largest economy. Though within the past few years our economy has taken a downturn(the worst since the depression era) and countries like China and Japan slowly but surely catching up to our countries record of being the world’s largest economy and biggest producer of goods. American society today is based upon several different principals, but the most common is greed.

Every year, not to mention every year there is a new must-have item, with technological advances bounding light-years ahead of what people of the past thought it would be. Advertisement today is based off of how exactly the producer can entice the buyer into buying their product, or investing in more of their company. When the Iphone first came out, hundreds of thousands of people camped out in front of electronics stores for days before it’s release just to buy one, with the day after thanksgiving being the busiest shopping day of the year for consumers and producers alike, people shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars on products they or their children “just have to have.”

Evidence suggests that there is a type of personality pre-dispositioned to be more materialistic. Results show people more affected by their emotions are more likely to become materialistic, due to their desires to fit in with the crowd, or to posses products and items no one else has yet, or few have seen before. Men are just as likely to become materialistic in today’s society as women are, though men oftentimes tend to buy more gadgets and “toys” such as boats, or cars, while women stick with Clothes, perfumes and shoes. It’s all about who’s who, and who has what today, leading to more cases of bullying, and unpopularity within today’s children.

As of 2010, New York was listed as the most expensive city to live in. This fact however doesn’t stop people from visiting or moving to the big apple, whether they be regular people or celebrities looking for a suburban city to settle in. Many forms of shopping such as Macy’s, Juicy Couture, Fendi, Coach, Sephora and every major fashionista and designer has a flagship store, somewhere within New York City. Broadway attracts many young hopefuls,and with 1 bedroom condos within New York’s SoHo suburbs listing for rent upwards of 8,000 dollars a month, many people consider the big apple the place to “make it or break it.”

Many people can walk just outside their apartments and walk right into stores like Gucci and Prada, dropping more than 5,000 dollars on purses, shoes and clothing. Fitting in is everything to young people these days, and if they have access to the money, they’re going to spend it on whatever they want, whether it’s stopping at a haute couture place to shop, or a hip new nightclub to dance at, to cars costing upwards of 100,000 dollars.

With Fashion Week in full swing as of right now in New York, many young men and young fashionista women are sitting at fashion catwalks, taking notes on the newest styles they like, to hoping to be noticed by major agencies as young models modeling indie designers new threads. Food and dining out in New York is a major part of a social life, the cheapest meal in New York is just under 6 dollars, while places like Chicago, it’s just under 4 dollars. Many children of politicians, socialites and record executives, business CEO’s, Celebrities and Artists go to school within New York City Limits, making up 50 %of the school children’s population. with Private school’s and academy’s costing upwards of 120,000 dollars per school year for tuition alone.

Renting is a great option if you’re just looking for something non-commit-able, New York has some of the nicest apartments and condos on the market today. If you are looking to buy, New York is the place to be for jobs, shopping and entertainment. The city’s “urban” vibe is a plus for many locals and tourists alike. Let’s start with a few apartment listings.

First of all, you have to consider how many rooms you are looking for. Oftentimes, the more rooms you want/need, the more expensive their going to be to rent or even buy. Second of all, is how many square feet the apartment is, and just where in the city it’s located at. Starting with renting, you have to decide which suburb or”part”of the city you want to live in. If you take prime real-estate, such as central park south, Upper East side or Soho, you’ll see renting prices on condo’s at around 15,000 dollars to 25,000 dollars. . This price range is normal for a high end 4 bedroom condo.

Secondly, Let’s take a look at buying an apartment/condo. The perk of buying instead of renting is of course, you owning the property outright. It’s yours, not a landlord’s, and you don’t have to commit to a lease every few months or every year. A typical price for a high end Condo in the Soho/Nari-ta, Chelsea with around 4,000 sq ft. is upwards of 4 million dollars. When it comes to buying solid housing, or an actual house property, this will be rare, and hard to find, making it more expensive. Houses within the shopping district are rare, and you will get farther faster with a condo/apartment. There is housing listed for coops and townhouses just above 9 million dollars.
